Hearing Assessments for Adults
To determine an individual’s hearing ability, the different parts of the ear need to be assessed. We do this by assessing the outer ear, middle ear and the inner ear. A typical hearing assessment would start with a thorough case history. An examination of the outer ear canal and ear drum is done using an otoscope to look into the ears. Tympanometry is then performed to assess middle ear function. The individual is then asked to have a seat in our spacious sound proof booth for a pure tone audiometry assessment. During this assessment earphones are placed on the person’s ears, the audiologist presents sounds and the individual then presses a button every time the sound is heard.
Hearing Assessments for Children
As children grow and develop, we have different ways of assessing their hearing. Depending on the age of the child, a hearing assessment will be done using earphones and getting the child to respond using play audiometry. For younger children and infants, objective assessments are conducted such as OAE and ABR testing which do not require any responses from the child.
Newborn Hearing Screenings
Newborn hearing screening for full term and premature babies are performed using special tests called OAE and sometimes ABR. These tests are usually done while baby sleeps. They are quick and give us very important information needed to determine whether baby is hearing normally or if further testing is necessary.
Industrial Hearing Assesements
Should a company require hearing assessments for their employees, we provide the necessary services and reports.
School Screenings
Hear Joy offers annual hearing screening tests done at school for small children.

We provide hearing aid adjustments and basic hearing aid cleaning and checking. Hearing aids can be dropped off at the practice to be sent in to the respective hearing aid company for a service or repair.
